Hey there. Let me introduce myself.

I am Kari Hammer (she/her), an LPC-S* therapist working towards LPCC licensure in Minnesota. After 25+ years of working in the nonprofit sector producing human potential events to help those living with breast cancer, HIV/AIDS, and other disease related causes, I’ve now taken my passion for helping people to the therapy space.

I enjoy working with individuals via telehealth between the ages of 18 and 99. I am passionate about walking alongside my clients through all seasons of their adult life, navigating the many life transitions that can often be distressing. As a person centered psychotherapist, my goal is to create a safe, nonjudgmental, shame-free space where clients can feel comfortable sharing the challenges that they are experiencing so together we can get beyond them. I desire for my clients to feel seen, heard and understood and I am open to meeting them wherever they are at. I bring with me care, compassion, kindness, and humor (when appropriate, of course!)

My clinical interests include depression, anxiety, working with families and loved ones of sex offenders, issues with self-esteem/confidence, difficulties in adjusting to new life situations, grief/loss, bereavement, sexual abuse, LGBTGEQIAP+, HIV/AIDS, terminal illness, trauma, and Sex Offender after-care treatment.

My friends would describe me as attentive, a good listener, caring, and maybe funny. I love listening to music, walking/hiking/biking, talking with people, and being near any body of water. It would be an honor to walk beside you. I hope you'll reach out if I sound like a good fit.

For transparency, a few things:

  • I was born a white, non-hispanic, cisgender, heterosexual, able-bodied female

  • I am the youngest of four, born and raised in a suburb of Minneapolis

  • I have been married and divorced, and have a long term significant other

  • I am a proud stepmom and have navigated the complexities of blending a family

  • I have experienced the challenges of being a caregiver and sat bedside with both of my parents when they passed away

  • I have extensive experience with disenfranchised grief and loving someone who has committed sexual harm to another

  • I don’t know everything and I’m not for everyone, and both are okay

*Note: I have my LPC-S license from the State of Minnesota. I am under supervision while I work towards my LPCC licensure which requires 4,000 hours… whew! Additionally, I have a Masters in Nonprofit Management.
